Family Psychotherapy

In order to address family pain and help to patch up a family’s sores, you need family therapy. The moment we are brought into this world we are placed within a family, whether they are our blood relatives or adoptive relatives or foster family. The family we get upon our birth heavily influences every single aspect of our lives. From the first breath to the very last.

The family actively determines who we are, and what we end up becoming, good or bad. We learn our vocabulary, habits, customs, and traditions, and a broad view of how to interpret the World around us from our family. They also teach us how to love, and also determine the way we interact with other people, based on our early interactions with our family members.

Unhealthy dysfunctional family

When we are born into a happy and healthy family with strong relationships, we are most likely to develop equally strong, healthy, and happier relationships with others. However, when the opposite happens and we are born into an unhealthy dysfunctional family who struggles to make meaningful connections with one and other, we are also going to struggle to create lasting bonds with other people.

Family psychotherapy

No one can deny that being born into the second kind of family is something rather unlucky, however, that does not mean that it cannot be changed. According to experts in the field, nearly all families deal with some sort of dysfunction, when the situation is dealt with most of those families are able to retain/regain some sense of wholeness, well-being, and happiness.

What family psychotherapy offers

Family psychotherapy offers a healthy way to deal with these situations, all the while helping you develop and maintain a healthy and functional family.

Family psychotherapy or counseling is a method of treatment that was specifically designed to tackle certain issues affecting the health and the proper ways families are supposed to function. It can be used during specific times, as the loss of a relative, or through longer periods involving Health-related problems of a close relative (Mostly Fathers and Mothers).

Family psychotherapy addresses individual issues placed in the context of the family. The main argument here is that these individual problems cannot be solved without first, understanding the dynamics of the family. The way the individual family acts heavily influences how the problem started and how the unit (the family) encourages or enabled that problem.

This form of therapy normally employs the help of certain practices and exercises used in cognitive, behavioral, and interpersonal therapy, and just like with any other form of treatment, the practices or exercises employ will depend on the kind of problem the family is dealing with.

Why a family psychotherapist

One of the most common reasons why a family psychotherapist is sought out for is to deal with behavioral or emotional problems in children or teenagers. Their problems don’t appear out of nowhere, they are a direct consequence of a problem deep-rooted in the family, which is why they will always have to deal with by the entire family.
